I like getting lost in places, of riding a cycle or taking walks without a specific destination. That's the way how I discover the most amazing things and places. Everyday I learn that I am surrounded by a huge world of small wonders that often unveil themselves just by chance. I believe that children have a right to fresh air, so I take them out every day. At least for a small walk, a slow walk, no hurry, life is fast enough anyway. Have I told that they love playgrounds? We have become experts already - real playground scouts.
Being a tourism and media consultant and journalist I spent way too much time online. Yet, what to write about, if you don't see with your own eyes. You cannot describe a local dish by looking it up in a cooking book. How magnificent is a building on a postcard? What does local life feel like on a video stream. I love dipping into all that. One of the "souvenirs" I brought back from in India (I lived there for a while) is that resting is an essential part of walking. Its the time when you allow your environment to catch hold of you. The smells, the voices, the sound and the light...
That said, I think I have done a good job in exploring the city since I came to Vienna few years back. Yet, I am still a learner and explorer in a city as diverse as this one is. But my external view helps me a lot to have a critical distance, and to put fit what I see in a bigger frame by comparing it with other places I was lucky enough to live in.
Some unique local experiences I can help you to plan are:
- Making your way through the outskirts' worker quarters, hidden parks and castles
- A flea market and second hand shopping tour
- Hiking the green belt around Vienna, the Wienerwald and the vineyards
- Showing you the best playgrounds in town
- Eating kosher, Turkish, Polish... food on the local markets
Ask me about these experiences and anything else in my area - I'd love to help you plan your perfect trip!
