Hi, my name is Becca and I am an expat currently working in the Superyacht industry based in South Florida

Two years ago I finally decided I was sick of the weather in the UK and needed to fulfill my lifetime dream of 'just setting off and seeing what happens'! So I booked a flight to Fort Lauderdale and found myself working as a Stewardess on a private yacht

Although my job does mean I travel around the US and the Caribbean, Fort Lauderdale is where many large (<100ft) yachts are based so that's where I call home now.

I love it there! Miami is really close to Fort Lauderdale so that's where I hang out most weekends, whether I want to chill out or party seriously hard!

Miami is coulourful and exciting - a melting pot of culture with massive cuban and Latino influences. South Beach is the ultimate place to hang out, have a mojito, cuban cigar and be amongst the gorgeous art deco architecture

Away from South Beach Miami has great shopping, boat tours in Biscayne Bay, restaurants and parks.

Close by Fort Lauderdale (approx 30km from Miami) is much more relaxed. Go down to Fort Lauderdale Beach and have a BBQ, take in the Spring break atmosphere, have a nosy at all the super-yachts docked there and try out paddle-boarding around all the canals - I love doing that!

Its easy to get out of the city into the Everglades and do some Alligator spotting too! Or you can venture down to the Florida Keys... the world is your oyster here

As a 'foreigner' living in Florida, I have tried to see as many of the 'tourist' attractions as well as getting involved in local life. I feel more than confident in advising anyone visiting the area on what to see, where to hang out and the best ways to soak up some of the South Florida sunshine and culture

Having travelled extensively myself, I have found simply talking to local people is one of the most useful resources... you just can't beat friendly personal advice!
