Introducing David - your Friend at the other End!

About Me

I live in Kendal in the south of Cumbria, just outside the borders of the Lake District National Park. I have been a management consultant for many years, but now spend an increasing amount of time on guiding visitors around the many delights of this wonderful county

I was born in the great Industrial City of Manchester, but like many people I escaped to the countryside at every opportunity. My Cumbrian love affair began at an early age when my Father brought home an intriguing length of sausage neatly wrapped up in brown paper and string. It was Cumberland sausage, I never forgot the taste and wanted more of it. Years later a similar encounter with Hartley's Brewery in Ulverston convinced me that Cumbria was the place to live

Over many trips to Cumbria I got to know the spectacular landscape of lakes and mountains well, but when I really got inside Cumbria I realised the county is packed with a long and rich history from prehistoric henges, through Roman occupation and Viking settlement to Victorian Industry. Cumbrian poets, writers and painters have provided much of the artistic inspiration that defines English culture as well as some of the people and ideas that have changed the world

While my sausage maker is now probably long dead, we now have a plethora of top quality food producers using local breeds and traditional techniques to produce exceptional taste experiences for locals and visitors alike. My one traditional brewery from all those years ago is also gone, but now replaced with nearly 30 craft breweries

It has taken me many years to find my way around all of the above, but I am now in a position to point you to the best of everything that is available, maximising the time you have in this wonderful part of the world
