Introducing Sirli - your Friend at the other End!

About Me

I'm Estonian, but have been living in Luxembourg for the past 6 years. So although I'm not a 'real' local, I have had enough time to get to know the people and all the beautiful and interesting corners of this country.

I love to travel and to discover new places and cultures. I have visited 26 countries and can speak Estonian, English and French.

Luxembourg has many hiking tracks and bicycle routes. Sometimes we go hiking with friends to discover new areas. This autumn the forests were so colorful and beautiful. This winter has brought with it a lot of snow and fairytale like forests. So each season offers really different scenery..

Maybe not many people are aware that Luxembourg also produces white wine. In autumn it is very nice to walk in the vineyards while enjoying all these autumn colors. In addition, the wine cellars open their doors for a guided visit and degustation of wines. I have learned a lot about the winemaking culture and I'm fascinated by it's long and rich history.

The cultural program is also very varied, especially in the summer months, when there are many different festivals organised. The best part is that most of these festivals are free of charge.

Although the city is the liveliest during summer, there are different festivals also organized throughout the year. My favorite is the Christmas market together with the Winterlights festival, which really light up the city.

The people you meet here work either in the banks or in the European Institutions. Luxembourg was one of the founding members of the EU, thus the Institutions form an important part of this country's identity.

Luxembourg has a population of ca. 500 000 people. All togehter there are people from 174 nationalities living in an area of approximately 2,586 km2. How much more multicultural can it get?

Another interesting fact about Luxembourg is that it is the world's only remaining Grand Duchy. Grand Duke and his family are often present at local celebrations and they also open their residence to the public during summer months.
