Introducing Nick - your Friend at the other End!

About Me

I was born in Kensington and brought up in southeast London, where I am now once more based after three decades of living and travelling in the parts of the world that are my areas of expertise.

I have spent a total of four years in India over twenty years of repeat visits, during which time barely a year has gone by without me appearing on the subcontinent at some point. In recent years, most of my time there has been spent in the south (especially Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, AP and the Andamans) and far north (Kashmir, Ladakh & HP).

India is a treasure trove of cultural, religious, natural and culinary delights which will amply reward anybody who invests the time and energy required to explore it. It has a truly timeless quality, yet can amaze you with its cutting edge technology. Where else could you see a dhoti-clad farmer on his mobile phone whilst ploughing his field with a pair of oxen?

I have worked as an author for the Rough Guides for 18 years and am a royaltied author on many titles including India and South India. Among other freelance articles for various publications, I acted as Tripcoach for a first time visitor to India for Budget Travel magazine.

My interests are wide-ranging from football (as a lifelong Spurs fan) and other sports, through music (especially rock, indie and psychedelic) and food, to reading and participating in more philosophical and religious topics.

I believe in the underlying unity of all people and the universe, which is one reason I love travel, so people can experience that as a greater reality.
