| Interests | Music, Walking, Travel writing |
I was born in Kensington and brought up in southeast London, where I am now once more based after three decades of living and travelling in the parts of the world that are my areas of expertise.
I spent 8 years living in Athens, originally teaching English before getting into travel writing, and still go to Greece two or three times a year for work. I have spent a total of four years in India over twenty years of repeat visits, during which time barely a year has gone by without me appearing on the subcontinent at some point.
My wife is American and prior to relocating to London in 2008 I was based in Pittsburgh for nine years.
I have worked as an author for the Rough Guides for 18 years and am a royaltied author on several of their titles. I have also written for AA publications on London/Britain and other freelance articles for various publications.
My interests are wide-ranging from football (as a lifelong Spurs fan) and other sports, through music (especially rock, indie and psychedelic) and food, to reading and participating in more philosophical and religious topics.
I have a great passion for travel, particularly for the places mentioned above, and an enormous amount of experience living in, travelling in and writing about them (see below). I love talking about and giving advice on everything from food and culture to sports and religion, as well as the nuts and bolts issues of transportation, safety and language.
I believe in the underlying unity of all people and the universe, which is one reason I love travel, so people can experience that as a greater reality.
