Hi! I'm a Colombian actress and writer. I was born and raised in Barranquilla, a city located at the Colombian Caribbean Coast, and I came to live in Bogota after highschool, over ten years ago.
I worked more than five years at British Council Colombia, Arts Office, where I was in charge, amongst other logistic issues, of being a guide for several music, drama, dance and even technical visitors. Usually, they wanted to know better our area, mostly Bogotá and its surroundings, in their free time.
As a theatre actress, I've toured across Central and South America, and some European countries, so I know how valuable is to meet local people that help you to have a real and good experience of the places you visit. I travelled throughout Colombia for about two years, as a TV programme hostess, looking for different cultural and scientific advances developed in several universities. During that time, I had the opportunity of learning more about the different places and cultures of my country.
Currently, I work as an actress, mainly in Bogota, and I use to travel frequently to the Caribbean Coast, which I know a lot, specially Cartagena, Santa Marta and Barranquilla.
Colombia is an amazing country, full of contrasts everywhere. It has coasts in both Caribbean and Pacific Oceans (including touristic Caribbean San Andrés Archipelago), it's crossed by three ranges of the Andes, and it has a wide area of plains and also part of the northern Amazon rainforest. Although there are no seasons, you can find all the weathers just going from a place to another in even one hour by land. Therefore, you can see different and beautiful landscapes, such as snow mountains, green plains, paradisiac beaches, and of course, lively and modern cities, as well as quiet and charming countryside towns, both on different ground levels.
Regarding culture, Colombia is a multicultural and multiracial country, where you can find interesting artistic expressions in a variety from the folk to the highbrow, including fusion creations.
Bogotá, its capital, is a huge diverse city (more than 7 millons inhabitants), an important business, cultural and touristic centre in Latin America, and the venue of many international events and festivals in all the fields. In the last decades, its gourmet activity has widely increased too, so you can enjoy a broad range of high quality restaurants from world's different cuisines. The surroundings of Colombian capital, located at 8.612 ft above sea level, are another beautiful touristic destination, where you can find vast areas of green mountains, grasslands and natural lakes, besides historic and traditional places, such as the Salt Cathedral and the Dorado Legend Lake.
I could write more about many other cities and areas of Colombia, such as Cartagena, the famous colonial walled city in the Northern Coast (UNESCO World Heritage Site), but that would take longer and it's better that you discover this and many other treasures with your own eyes.
Finally, but not less important, contrary to international news about us, Colombia is a safe place if you know where to go. Most local people are nice and peaceful, and every year we have an important number of visitors over the whole country. Due to the large amount of foreign people living here, many of whom were just visitors once, we've got a promotion sentence I want to share with you:
COLOMBIA, THE ONLY RISK IS WANTING TO STAY.
I would be pleased to help you with your visit, see you soon!
